Design and typesetting of a verse novel exploring the devastating impact of youth suicide by Julianne Negri.
The poems in the book fall under three categories: grief/dream, past and present. The design needed to subtly identify this to the reader. I used varying indentation levels to distinguish the three poem types. Flicking through the book, this variation in alignment replicates the sense of flitting between memories and thoughts, and emulates the
narrative, mixing past, present and dreams. I chose Gill Sans Nova to give a contemporary look and feel, and used bold full page dividers for chapter openers which provide a visual pause between sections.
