Text design for a guide to the language of race by Maggie Semple and Jane Oremosu.
Designing the book required accommodating a large number of text styles. As a dictionary of sorts, entries were catalogued in alphabetical order, but explanations ranged from a couple of words to multiple paragraphs spanning several pages, and some entries also had numbered or bulleted lists, tables, quotes and extracts. I designed full page breaks for each letter, set on a tinted background to make them easy to spot if flicking through the book, and entries were set in bold text and underlined to add emphasis.
